Abstract

The article examines the essence of the electromagnetic space and its significance as a new dimension of modern warfare, integrating all other combat domains – land, maritime, air, space, and cyberspace. An analytical review of normative definitions of electromagnetic space has been conducted, revealing the absence of a unified and consistent approach to its interpretation. The conceptual and terminological framework for the use of electromagnetic space by defense forces in contemporary military conflicts has been systematized, which is essential for the development of doctrinal provisions and regulatory acts. Particular attention is paid to the role of electromagnetic space in countering armed aggression. The main characteristics of electromagnetic waves and electromagnetic means relevant to defense are considered. It is demonstrated that the effectiveness of defense forces depends on their ability to conduct electromagnetic warfare within the electromagnetic space, and that the efficiency of such warfare is one of the key factors in achieving superiority over the adversary. Electromagnetic warfare under current conditions of repelling armed aggression is analyzed as an integrated system of interrelated components ensuring the comprehensive employment of forces and means in the electromagnetic space. The substantive transformation of key terms is highlighted: from "electronic warfare" to "electromagnetic warfare", and from the narrow technical understanding of "electromagnetic spectrum" to the multidimensional category of "electromagnetic space". The possible place of electromagnetic space in Ukrainian legislation is also discussed, particularly the prospects of its regulatory framework for defense purposes. It is emphasized that the systematization of terminology and establishment of legal norms for the use of electromagnetic space creates the foundation for enhancing the effectiveness of defense operations and ensuring national security.
